What is a Yurt?

Originally yurts were nomadic shelters used on the high plateaus of Central Asia. Having proven themselves over centuries, they remain one of the oldest indigenous forms of shelter still in use today since their introduction in North America in the 1970s. Built for extreme weather conditions, modern yurts in North America are made using hi-tech materials.

Our Modern Yurts

Our luxurious yurts feature high ceilings (up to 14ft), opening roof domes, as well as customized decking and flooring that contribute to a unique combination of open aesthetics and ambience. Structurally, they incorporate materials such as flame retardant fabric and insulation similar to that used by NASA space shuttles (fully effective in temperatures from - 40 C to + 40 C).

Our yurts function completely off-grid, making it an environmentally sound choice, fitted with solar panels, composting toilets, they produce zero environmental footprint. This completely customizable design by Yurtco has made these yurts an increasingly popular choice in Canada and across North America.
